Origine, winner of Top Vélo's Bike of the Year Award
04/03/2020
It's the story of a champion
At the end of 2019, Origine was as usual, participating at the Roc d’Azur Bike Show, an unmissable event for cyclists and bike brands, in southern France. Many brands use the show to unveil their latest models, often combining their latest offer with original displays. For us, at Origine, it was unthinkable not to grab the opportunity to present our latest and future bikes.
That's where the idea came from.
Already known to and acknowledge by road cyclists and the cycling press, the Axxome II RS had proved itself right from the start. Its cutting-edge technology, invisible to the naked eye but very present when in use, is due to its ingenious construction.
The Axxome II RS frame is a concentration of technology and it weighs just 840 g.
Using our proprietary CCT+® rear triangle set up whereby the chain stays and seat stays are joined to the frame using a method known as Continuous Carbon Tubing® whereby the joints are overlaid with resin-impregnated carbon fibre effectively replacing the standard lug that is normally associated by cyclists with a hard spot between the bottom bracket and the seat clamp.
Any road buzz is thereby dissipated and filtered out over the whole length of the tube (chain and seat stays) for a more comfortable ride.
It also benefits from our EPS internal tube moulding technology that we introduced to the market on the Axxome 350, cutting out all surplus resin and any air bubbles from compressing the layers of carbon fibre, even in the angles. This technique generates a reduction in frame weight and enhanced production consistency.
Finally, the RS layering is made up of a subtle mix of the highest quality TeXtreme carbon fibres used by many top Formula 1 teams in the build of their cars.
This high modulus carbon fibre has a flat section, whereas conventional fibre is round. As a result, the amount of resin used is reduced due to perfect mechanical stacking.
The zones subject to intense strain such as the crank, steering, seat stays and fork crown are reinforced with Toray 3k M40 M50 carbon fibre.
It is due to these incorporated technologies that we have succeeded in making the Axxome II RS wickedly effective and responsive, without having to build a stiff and uncomfortable frame as found in earlier times.
To highlight our work, we decided to give this machine of war a unique paintwork in keeping with the racy lines that we gave the bike. We therefore decided to ask a French artist, Nicolas Bassez, known better under his alias of Nikibi
The result was perfect, perfect for the bike to be presented for the Bike of the Year award.
As every year, Origine provides one or more bikes for the different Bike of the Year categories.
And this year was no different, we participated in Top Vélo’s Bike of the Year Awards.
It was decided that the Axxome II RS that we had first presented at the Roc d’Azur Bike Show would participate in this year’s competition. Fitted with the latest Bora WTO wheelset and the Campagnolo Record groupset, we knew that we had a bike that would tick all the boxes from a technological, mechanical and aesthetic point of view.
The 3rd April 2020, we learnt that we were the lucky winners of Top Vélo’s Bike of the Year Awards 2020.
It’s a team victory. Not just the whole team at Origine but also you, friends, cyclists and supporters of our brand!
Without you, we would not have been able to climb on to the top step of the podium as readers’ votes counted for 20% of the total vote for each bike.
You were more than 3,000 who voted for us! Thank you.
We have always appreciated that our clients would be our strength and is why the entire team at Origine thanks you most sincerely and looks forward to continuing to produce bikes that you want.
